James Blake
Hailing from London, James Blake has been getting massive amounts of praise in 2010, and for good reason. Everything this dubstep producer has released has been a breath of fresh air–songs off his recent EP The Bells Sketch and 12” Air & Lack Thereof have melodies that flow over you until Blake chops them up and delicately synthesizes new harmonies to pull you back in.
Blake also produces remixes under the moniker Harmonimix, remixing popular hits such as “A Milli”, “Bills Bills Bills” , and “Drop It Like It’s [Hot] Not”, as well as some remixes of singles of pioneering dubstep artists, such as Untold’s “Stop What You’re Doing” and Peverelist’s “Roll With The Punches”. Blake smothers each song with a synthy goodness that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. He has said of his remixes: “I find with remixes that if I’m really passionate about the music in the first place, then it’s worth doing, and I can make something that stands on its own. I always felt remixing was a form of musical homage…”
With the various releases under his name and Harmonimix, along with a few unreleased tunes and remixes on mixes across the web, Blake’s discography totals to about an hour, making each of his songs all the more savory. This progressive producer is certainly one to keep your eye on.
