MTV has announced today that electro house artist Deadmau5 will  be performing and “DJing” for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

Sure the exposure is GREAT for his sales but in my honest opinion I don’t think it will do anything for his production. Many fans already feel that his production quality is going down hill, and I don’t think 100,000 new MTV-crazed fans will add anything to his name.

I’m glad for Deadmau5′s success but I don’t think electro / house music has any place on MTV Networks. With Deadmau5 DJing MTV events and Rusko collaborating with Britney Spears, I fear for what the future of EDM holds.

“Dance wasn’t always considered pop, and people like Lady Gaga and [David] Guetta and those guys really brought it out to the commercial market,” he said about bringing his sound to the masses. “I’m just getting a lot more fans and God bless it, and that’s the goal of being an artist is to get yourself heard by any means possible.”

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12.
