Play – Introducing Beatport's Remix Platform

Often times new producers have gained their first buzz by posting their own fresh remixes of well-known tracks on soundcloud or YouTube, a la Madeon or Zedd.

Welcome to Beatport’s Play (play.beatport.com).  Beatport has begun to streamline this process, working with popular artists to provide “stems,” from their tracks, holding remix contests. Play could easily become a highly successful venture, and become the leading platform for the publication of remixes.

Beatplay’s main concept is to hold remix contests for budding producers and give them a legal and accessible way of sharing their music, with the ultimate prize of having YOUR music released on a major music label.  The contests also award DJ and studio equipment such as the Novation Twitch or monitor speakers from Pioneer.  Remixes have always set EDM apart from other genres, and definitely adds a whole other angle of accessibility to it’s fans.  While hip-hop has had remixes as well, traditionally it has only included a new verse or something rather elementary, without changing the feel or structure of the song.  An EDM remix though often can put an entirely new spin on a track and ultimately breathe new life into the music.  Beatport is supporting the growth of EDM and it’s great to see major artists signing on for this initiative.
