I had the chance to catch Bassnectar in San Jose this past Saturday (Cinco de Mayo) as part of the Vava Voom Tour, and the most prominent thought that I came away from the show with is that Lorin Ashton is unequivocally and indisputably an alien. While the Rapunzel-length hair is enough to inspire a tinge of doubt at Mr. Ashton’s earthliness, it was the entire atmosphere he created that reassured my suspicions of his ethereal origins.
Aside from the fact that the venue was reminiscent of a modified, prodigious high …

Beatport has been undergoing some significant changes over the last 12 months, most notably their decision to switch away from their archaic Flash-based interface and integrate HTML5 into their site (Soundcloud made a similar decision recently, as well). More recently, Beatport launched a new service dubbed Play, where labels and artists could freely host remix competitions and artists were easily able to submit and share their entries.
Just yesterday, Beatport announced another new service, simply called Beatport DJs. With so many “bedroom DJs” trying to make it to the top these …

Day 3
My knees were weak, my arms were heavy, thank god I didn’t vomit on my sweater, and I was ALMOST ready to attend Ultra Day 3. Twenty hours of going HAM takes a lot out of you, but even just staring at Day 3’s lineup was enough to get my ass outta bed and on the metro for a third day of rigorous auditory insanity. Day 3’s lineup was arguably the best of the weekend, and it’s a damn shame that I had to choose between sets such as …

Day 2
Day 2 of Ultra Music Festival began as a battalion of bass and culminated in grandiose fashion. The majority of my day was spent in the Hellishly-hot dubstep tent: a pit of unrelenting grime, where you were just as likely to see a yolked-out meat head thrashing away to the filth as you were a delicate, feminine beaut, getting down to the dirt. Only in Miami.
Zeds Dead started the day off right, bringing that jungle, tribal flavor with their percussion heavy bass tracks. The Canadian duo had me dripping …

When I first sat down at my computer, I wondered how I could even go about recounting the weekend that was Ultra Music Festival. How can one even begin to describe a three day, 30 hour long, 150,000 person music festival in Miami? There is no way to truly convey the phenomenological experience of actually being there, in Miami, at Ultra. I will do my best to capture its spirit, to visualize the aesthetic, to reimagine the sensation, yet in my endeavor I shall surely fail.
All I can say is …

This is not a ploy. The acclaimed, Grammy-sponsored documentary, which only hit theaters for two weeks, is now streaming for free! If you’ve got an hour and a half to kill some point soon… scratch that… if you’ve got an hour and a half to kill ever, then sit your ass down and watch this film. Why? Well I’ll give you the most obvious reason: Re:Generation is a film for music-philliacs. And as you are currently perusing the internet for new music, odds are that you too, love music. Re:Generation details the …

So I’m going to go ahead and say it: Porter Robinson is the best live performer I have ever seen. Feel free to disagree with me, you’re entitled to your own opinion, but hear me out. Sure, he does not boast an incredible stage setup, à la mau5 or Chemical Brothers. Nor does he play those giant, stadium-sized big room house tracks, à la Swedish House Mafia or Tiësto. But I’ll tell you what he does do… he plays three times as many tracks as any other DJ out there, …

Last night I learned of an article on dml.fm (Dirty Mexican Lemonade) about the state of music blogs. I felt compelled share my sentiments, as I own and run this blog. Although ElectroJams was not mentioned in the article, we are however still part of the EDM blog “scene.”
Off the top of my head, I can think of 10 different music blogs that focus primarily on electronic dance music, with the occasional indie rock or hip hop post. On top of that, there are probably 20 – 30 others that …
