Although he’s already had some massive tours, L.A Riots still has time to make appearances at places such as the Yost Theater in the OC like he did this past Saturday.

To say that Mr. LeDisko had the crowd moving is a total understatement. Although the venue was filled with casual clubbers that wouldn’t necessarily be familiar with LA RIOTS as anything special, you wouldn’t have been able to tell from a “God’s Eye” perspective. Daniel progressivley built upon each song he dropped to make for a set that seemed well put together.

Variety is the keyword that described what I experienced that night. Some memorable songs that made appearances were Hardwell’s remix of Tiesto ft BT- Love Comes Again as well as Swedish House Mafia & Laidback Luke feat. Deborah Cox Leave the World Behind. He presented a rendition of Kaskade’s Turn It Down that made the crowd go absolutely nuts. Among the many remixes played, Daniel’s rendition of Emili Sande’s Daddy was one that immediately caught my attention and immediately gave me a good impression of what was to come. Filled with top tier house tracks and well thought out remixes, the set was amazing none the less. I left thoroughly impressed with what I had just witnessed, anxiously ready for the next time I’d see LA RIOTS.

Be expecting to hear more of LA RIOTS being talked about in the near future. With sets like Saturday’s it won’t be too long before LA Riots starts to headline bigger venues and is on the tongue of EDM fans everywhere.

Motivated by multiple productions making the top 50 on the iTunes Electronic and Dance charts, Egbert’s success at this point is not a surprise. The surprise is how the hype surrounding him has exponentially grown and we wonder where he will be next.

At the bottom you can stream the title track from his newest release.

James, it’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to talk with you and get to hear your answers.

Thanks a bunch for the opportunity! I really appreciate your support!

What’s can we expect from your new album, In The Beginning?

I think the best way to enjoy In The Beginning is to clear your expectations entirely. I find that the reason many people dislike things is because of their previously set expectations. What I mean by that is that if a listener doesn’t like “dubstep” because of something they heard in their distant past, they shouldn’t necessarily expect the songs I wrote at 140 bpm to fit the same mold of what they experienced in the past. I think the main expectation a listener shouldset is that they can expect to play the album on repeat for a few weeks.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound is all about evoking an emotion, so there’s a lot of calm points within my music which draws out an emotion and that usually tends to build into something chaotic and epic, creating a new feeling. I think music can paint a picture in your mind or give you a feeling, even without using words, and that’s what I strive for within my sound.

What’s your inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is probably my life experiences. Everybody has been through painful situations, and we’ve all had the internal feeling like we’re shouting on a mountain top. I’m inspired by those moments, and the universal relationship that all human beings share through music. Even though we haven’t shared each other’s joys or pains, the idea that we can be united through music is huge.

Musically speaking, what have been your biggest influences, electronic or otherwise?

I think my “life-changing” albums (musically speaking) were The Last Resort by Trentemoller and Angel Milk by Telepopmusik. I coincidentally purchased both albums at the same time, only weeks after moving away from my parents to pursue a new life in Colorado. Listening to the attention to detail that the producers from both projects had was incredibly inspiring and they really pushed me to become a better producer.

When did you get started with music production?

My uncle bought me a macbook pro as a high school graduation present in 2004. I began fiddling with GarageBand and soon thereafter decided to buy Reason. I bought Logic in late 2005 and have been using (and LOVING) Logic ever since. What is your favorite genre to produce? I really do love electro house (complextro or whatever you want to call it) mostly due to the high energy level. I’ve ventured into Dubstep recently, which is funny because when I began producing, I was heavily into drum & bass to the point where that was all that I’d listen to. I find it weird that I’m JUST NOW producing dubstep here and there since a lot of the production qualities are practically next door neighbors to dnb.

When you get in the studio, is there any specific mindset you get in? Anything in particular that you do? Ritual?

I usually get into a production mindset before getting in the studio. Whereas normal people sing in the shower, I’ve come up the concepts and ideas for an astonishing number of my songs in the shower. Isle Of Capri, Lady Luck, Back To New, You Got Me, In The Beginning are all ideas that I distinctly remember coming up with the shower. Then, once the shower idea is complete, it gets recorded on my phone’s voice recorder so I don’t lose the idea during the 35 minute drive to my studio

What do you have in your studio?

My prize piece is my Moog Little Phatty. I really should probably give it a name. I think people can tell a big difference in my sound between the Blackhawk EP when I didn’t use it and when I really began using the Little Phatty on In the Beginning. I’ve been using it for just about everything around here lately. It’s just so much fun to actually have your hands on a piece of gear as opposed to doing everything internally. It’s really changed my thought process towards synth modeling and I’ve created new sounds that I wouldn’t have even thought of before I owned the piece. The other huge bonus with the Little Phatty is just how warm and analogue the sound really is.

You’ve shared the stage with some big names like Avicii and Skrillex, what has meant the most? Best touring/show moments?

I think the most meaningful show I’ve played so far was recently in LA. The whole crowd was singing along, knew when all the drops were going to hit, and it was one of the first shows where everybody didn’t go crazy for the simple reason that my music is energetic. I could tell that their energy at the show was because they paid money at the door to see ME, and that was a pretty powerful experience for me.

According to your bio, you’ve had “for client” productions, can you elaborate on this?

Before I began working on this project, I owned my own production company where I produced (with my name in the small print on albums) for singers and pop or electronic bands. In 2008, I had the pleasure of walking away from my job and producing music as my 9-5 day job. I worked really hard every day, and pushing myself to create music on days that I wasn’t “feeling” creative was a phenomenal life-lesson for me. I realized we’re all given opportunities that sometimes stretch our comfort zones, and nobody was ever going to want what I wanted as badly as I wanted it. I realized that if I truly wanted to be a professional music producer, I couldn’t wait for opportunities to fall in my lap, and I couldn’t take any day that I could possibly be writing music for granted, so I’ve had that mentality ever since the early days of that production business.

Any advice for young aspiring producers?

You have to understand that nobody wants what you want more than you want it. If you want to be a music producer, produce music. I would dare to say that since I began to produce in 2004, late 2011 is when things really started “taking off” so to speak. That leaves 7 years of back-story that a lot of people don’t see. Don’t worry about how to get on a label or how to “break into the music industry”. Produce music, keep producing music, and you’ll notice that the right people will notice when it’s worth noticing.

What do you think of “ghost producing” and the famous producers who use it?

I don’t think it’s hugely despicable or anything like that, but I think the whole idea of being a musician is making the music. I wouldn’t respect a surgeon who walked out of the operating room as soon as the anesthesia set in, and in the same way, I don’t have respect for producers who use ghost producers. I will say that there are some people who use ghost producers who are brilliant and mind blowing dj’s and/or song-writers. Their brains just don’t tick as the guy pushing the buttons on the computer, so I suppose it’s a tricky question to answer.

What was it like collaborating with your sister on your music?

It was really awesome to collab with my sister on the recent album. We had done stuff in the years past that I never published, but I’ve done a lot of growing in my production since then. She recently graduated from UC Irvine after going through the musical theater program there, and I can really tell that her voice and confidence in her voice has grown a lot. When she was in Denver for Christmas this past year, we wrote the lyrics and vocals together for In The Beginning and Milky Way Wars in my studio, and pretty much laid down the vocals right on the spot. I’m looking forward to watching her career grow and continuing to have the unique brother/sister collaboration from time to time. Thanks so much again for your support of the new album!

Everafter (Tritonal Club Mix) is a rendition of one of the songs off their debut album “Piercing The Quiet” which was released on their very own record label Air Up There Recordings. Hearing this song immediately puts one into a reminiscent mood especially when Christina Soto’s voice pierces through to lift your being sky high. Along with Christinas voice is a beat that will not stop becoming prominent. It’s driving characteristics are evident from the beginning and it progressively grows into copious amounts of pure greatness.

This song was released as a teaser for a Club & Remixes album that Chad and Dave are doing. Super 8 & Tab, Stoneface & Terminal, Suncatcher, Mike Shiver, Estiva are said to make appearances on this album and if that is the case, expect this album to be exceptional.

Nicky Romero has collaborated with the likes of David Guetta and Avicii, headlined some of the biggest festivals, and now he’s put out a BBC Essential Mix. This one exemplifies Romero’s energetic, upbeat, and fresh sound. He drops favorites of his own like Camorra and Generation 303 and of others like Hardwell’s Spaceman and his recent collaboration with David Guetta, Metropolis. The BBC Essential Mix always seems to be a benchmark of a producer’s fame, and this should continue to bring in fans by the throngs. This mix is euphoric and a show of his skills mixing and with acapellas.

Personally, I think this could be the mix of the year already. It’s superb in every fashion, and well I don’t know if I have heard as a good a mix as this in a very long time.

Known for featuring talented up-and-coming trance artists, this release is powered by the likes of Maor Levi and the long time Anjuna resident Krzysztof Pretkiewicz known as Nitrous Oxide.

Disc 1 is mixed by the Israeli producer Maor Levi who got his start at the ripe age of 11 and then progressed to his first release with “Lital” in 2006 on Anjunadeep. After a mandatory stint in the Israeli Army, Maor came back rejuvenated and started to establish himself in music again. Starting from the beginning of the first disc it becomes evident that Levi possesses a unique musical sense that makes his mix a powerful blend of collective influence that not only provides you with something amazing to listen to but it takes you on what seems like his own personal adventure. Diversity is the first word that comes to mind when tracks like “Electrified (Mat Zo Remix)” by Tate & Diamond feat. Nicolai are found along with “This Love” by Kyau & Albert. Levi goes on to show us his true colors with original compilations and remixes. “Won’t Say No” is an emotional piece created by Maor in a significant period of time in his life. He then goes on to remix “Phoenix From The Flames” Ft. Justine Suissa making it significantly more upbeat than the original. He then goes on to add new flavors of trance and electro to a old classic “Alba” by the famous Super 8. Bluestone makes a showing with Namaste. Norin & Rad throw in “Pistol Whip”, a track that is catchy with raw undertones.

The route that this Israeli talent is taking is very distinct. Maor Levi goes to show us that emotion is at the forefront of his music.

Krzysztof Pretkiewicz also known as Nitrous Oxide has been apart of the Anjunabeats family for a significant amount of time now. Credited with productions like “North Pole,” “Amnesia” and “Morning Light”, N2O represents a evolutionary take in his music proving that he develops himself with every production that he is involved with.

Disc2 takes on Krzystof’s deep, uplifiting style. It contains four original compositions as well as four remixes. The Anjunadeep presence is also felt with Oliver Smith, Sunny Lax and Boom Jinx making appearances in the mix. “Azzura” by Boom Jinx & Daniel Kandi and “Awakenings” by Super8 & Tab give us classic style trance drops that can be described as impact driven. Fellow Polish producer Adam Kancerski presents a tune that can only be defined as epic in “Orion”. Beautifully redone is Craig Connelly’s “Manchester AM (2012 Club Mix)”. This tune is bound to make you feel good inside with melodic buildups and a steady beat that is more on the subtle side of dynamics.

Listening to Disc2 reminds one why they are so attracted to trance music not only as a genre but as a way of transporting emotions and thought processes into their very being.

Anjunabeats Worldwide 04 has brought us yet again two artists to look out for in the near future. Although already well known it is safe to say that these two gentlemen are set for a very impactful year.

Set to release on April 30, 2012 the club mix of Ashley Wallbridge’s collaboration with Andy Moor “World to Turn” (featuring Gabriela) is a follow up to the smash hit “Faces”. It is receiving support from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and Gareth Emery. The track itself is melodic like the original mix but has a distinct rhythmic drive that is associated with club mixes.
Needless to say this track is going to be prominent on the dance floors for the foreseeable future.

This year, Anjunabeats hopes to this spot to introduce the world to Maor Levi of Israel and Nitrous Oxide of Poland. Both young producers have put together continous mixes for this release, with tons of new exclusive material (like Nitrous Oxide’s Tiburon) and is sure to provide you with the newest in trance and progressive house.

It’s a hallmark of every great producer. It’s the prestigious chance to construct an immaculate, 2 hour set of your finest taste in music. The renown BBC Essential Mix added one more superstar to its legendary ranks last night, and he goes by the name of Flux Pavilion. As Steele himself states, the mix is a bit of a history lesson in the dynamic offerings of Circus Records, though it jumps around to a multitude of genres. The mix is a tour de force of cleanly mixed, delightful, at times destructive and daunting, dubstep. Some of my favorites from the tremendous track list include Brown and Gammon’s remix of “Jurassic”, the Funtcase remix of “Hot Pursuit”, and Trolley Snatcha’s “Make My Whole World”. But who am I kidding, the whole damn mix is absolutely stunning. Close to the middle of the mix, Flux descends into a moombahton medley, dropping Feed Me’s “One Click Headshot”, an unreleased collaboration from Datsik and Diplo, as well as the forthcoming Dillon Francis remix to Flux’s own “Daydreamer”. Other hidden, unreleased gems in the mix include Flux’s forthcoming track “Lift You Higher” as well as Roksonix’s smashing remix to Nero’s “Me and You”. Check out the two hour mix below.
