mutrix

This 24 year-old producer from Cincinnati named James Ruehlmann is the third impressively talented producer to show up on my radar in the last week. James’ alter ego, Mutrix, is a persona of galactic proportions. Weaving together psychedelic synths in progressive orchestrations that sometimes resemble heavy metal riffs traveling through expansive atmospheres, Mutrix demonstrates that he is a force to be reckoned with. Wait…what? Yeah. I honestly was blown away when I found this guy. His songs are progressive and dymamic, pulling elements from Psy-Trance, Electro, Dubstep and …

yema

While only his second release, the young Canadian producer Damn Kids has shown that he has some serious flavor. A 3 track EP off of the new label Provoke (it’s only their third release) Damn Kids brings his own unique tribal style that takes the structure of house with some twists.
What easily could be the soundtrack for a scene in a village deep in the Amazon, the first and title track Yema, evokes a certain imagery of a tribal ceremony.  The eclectic nature of this track, and the EP as …

Two of the biggest names to emerge from the UK’s house music scene join forces with one of Chris Lake’s favourite producers and collaborators for a spicy new release on Great Stuff.
Brighton boys Prok & Fitch have been doing big things for the likes of Toolroom, Axtone and Stealth over the last few years, building up an impressive following in the process and an excellent label in Floorplay Recordings. Lys, meanwhile, has features heavily on Chris Lake’s Rising Digital, as well as on Strictly Rhythm, Cr2, and of course, Great …

What happens when you combine the Iberican sound from the prestigious duo Chus and Ceballos, the NYC flavor and the voice from the legend Cevin Fisher? You get “Lost in Music”… Now you have the chance to preview the Manuel De La Mare Space Mix of the original hypnotic iberican tech house groove with the filtered vocals creeping in. His perfect rework of the track is a natural consequence of Manuel De La Mare lifetime dedication to music and masterful remix creation, which acted as a preposition for nominating him …

One reason why I love Spotify (other than it’s massive library and ease of use) is the fact that it learns what music I like from my library and what I listen to. So every time I log in, I see a simple page highlighting some recent and popular releases. This is especially handy for me not only as a music lover but also for this website.
Just the other day I logged into Spotify and saw some new remixes of a Tiësto track called Bleckentrommel he did with Montana and …

Calling Anjunabeats Worldwide 04 a masterpiece would be a understatement. Known for featuring talented up-and-coming trance artists, this release is powered by the likes of Maor Levi and the long time Anjuna resident Krzysztof Pretkiewicz known as Nitrous Oxide.
Disc 1 is mixed by the Israeli producer Maor Levi who got his start at the ripe age of 11 and then progressed to his first release with “Lital” in 2006 on Anjunadeep. After a mandatory stint in the Israeli Army, Maor came back rejuvenated and started to establish himself in music again. Starting from …

Dutch duo Bingo Players have seemingly come out of no where these past few months, announcing their presence as a resounding and leading force in the cross-over genre of dutch, electro house. Their previous two releases, “Rattle” and “Mode”, were by far the most impressive to date from the two. This new tune however, has the potential to be even bigger. While the dutch influence is prominent in “L’Amour”, the most surprisingly delightful aspect is hands down the Daft Punk-ish, acid house feel. The intro begins with a funky, exaggerated riff …

Fresh off his giant releases of “Haters Gonna Hate” and “Toulouse”, Nicky Romero brings us this acid, tech house masterpiece. Sampling the Chemical Brothers’ “Block Rockin’ Beats”, Romero tears the track up with acidy, future rock, “wow wow wow” bass booming synths. This track is funky and frenetic, a roller coaster ride into the 22nd century. With the caliber of  this track, and as Romero’s first release on Tiesto’s label Musical Freedom, this track is sure to generate massive hype.

Viktor Rose is an emerging EDM producer from Latvia of all places, but hopefully soon he will be touring in a venue closer to you. His new track Requiem caught my attention, and in a fairly unusual way. There is just something about the track that grabbed me, and I can’t quite put my finger on what exactly it is. Requiem is a really dreamy and catchy fusion of shoegaze and tech house which sounds odd but feels really good when you listen to it. Check it out and I’m …
